America’s No Joke, But We Sure Are Funny
I knew that we here at No Genre Daily were pretty funny guys, so it’s really no surprise that the social network site Badoo.com, based out of London, England, elected Americans as the funniest people in the world. The poll is obviously not just based on present day Americans, though, but took into consideration past sitcoms and comedians as well.
When you think about it in this regard, then, it really does appear to be a no brainer. I mean c’mon, you’ve got guys from the likes of Bill Murray to Eddie Murphy, not to mention shows like Seinfeld, Friends, and The Simpsons, all still favorites both at home and abroad. But then again, I might be biased right? Being American and all, and the study took this into account.
Badoo asked 30,000 people from 15 countries to try and forge a unanimous opinion on who was funniest, and who was not, that dubious honor belonging to Germany. And while this might not seem like the best way to go about a poll, the compilers were shocked when England finished 7th out of the 15 total countries that were listed in the poll.
For a country that brought forth the original version of “The Office,” it was quite a shock. Maybe it’s for the best, though, and will help to spur on some more great comedy. After all, no matter what country you find funniest, we can all agree that some more of Monty Python and the Holy Grail would have been pretty great.
