Hacking for Good

Recently I have been reading about several hack attacks occurring. The Playstation Network, gmail accounts, another Playstation network, the PBS website, Playstation again, Weiner’s weiner being sent out on Twitter and Playstation. Besides Playstation constantly being pwned by hackers the other trend of these attacks is that they have malicious intent. However, today I read about a hack done for the greater good.

James Bond and MI6 (British Intelligence) hacked an al-Qaeda magazine produced by radicalist Anwar al-Awlaki. The magazine is written in English and is used as a tool to recruit new terrorists.

When users tried to download an issue which featured a recipe for a homemade, very dangerous pipe bomb they got something a whole lot sweeter… Recipes for cupcakes!

Good to know that these sites are actively monitored, but I don’t know if these are the type of people to mock.
