UFC Main Event Changed

May 30th’s UFC main event schedule has significantly changed due to injuries endured by both fighters.

Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard were set to battle in a highly anticipated rematch which would put Edgar’s lightweight title on the line. Edgar’s coaches said he was having a phenomenal camp and it was the best that he had ever trained. However Frankie’s back gave out and after taking a week off to let the injury heal, the ailment returned and the lightweight champ also suffered a broken rib. Maynard has been nagged by a knee injury for quite some time now. It reached a point that it was hindering his performance inside the octagon, so he too was forced to withdraw from the bout.

The event will now be headlined by Quinton “Rampage”Jackson fighting against Matt Hamill with one of the under cards being Thiago Alves vs. Rick Story. Although Rampage and Alves have the potential of putting on an explosive show, the card has been downgraded significantly due to the lightweights being forced to postpone the title fight. Edgar and Maynard have fought twice before, the fights ended in a draw this passed January and a unanimous decision for Maynard in April 2008. I think I’ll have to save my $60 for the UFC’s next come-around.
