>Need a Ride? There’s an App for That
How many times have you been late for an appointment and can’t hail a cab because they’re all occupied. Now you’re forced to walk, and considering this is America, there’s no way you’re going to want to do that. No need to worry, you can whip out your iPhone or Android Phone and fire up Uber, a car service which calls a luxury vehicle to your location in a matter of minutes. The app is currently available only for use in San Francisco, but with 10,000 customers already registering for the new service, it is expected to be available in New York City very soon. The app itself is free to download, but if you want to use the service you better be willing to pay. A ride which would cost $10 in a standard cab, costs $25 through the app. To be honest, if this was available at UMass you better believe I’d be willing to pay. I can’t tell you how difficult it is to get a cab at 3am on a Saturday at The Zoo, and it’s not because there aren’t any services running at that hour. It’s because there are hundreds of college kids roaming the streets of Amherst all calling the same three cab services trying to get back to campus from the Townehouses or Hobart. The light bulb just went on… I’m starting my next enterprise.
